Moroni₂ was the son of Mormon. He was the last surviving Nephite and was, therefore, witness to the degradation and destruction of his people. Moroni₂ contributed to the records by completing the book of Mormon, writing the book of Moroni, and abridging the Jaredite records, now called the book of Ether. In latter days, Moroni₂ assisted in the restoration of the gospel by directing Joseph Smith where to find the Book of Mormon record and later allowing him to retrieve it.
