Click here to listen to an on-line interview with James Faulconer about his book, The Life of Holiness: Notes and Reflections on Romans 1, 5-8, published by the Maxwell Institute in 2012.
Faulconer perceives that some Latter-day Saints seem to be afraid of the book of Romans. Missionaries have difficulty with challenges based on Romans from conservative Protestants. For example, we don’t believe in the kind of salvation by grace that some other Christians ascribe to the book. However, there are ways for Latter-day Saints to talk about the book that reflect the strength of our position.
In his book, Faulconer proceeds through these chapters of Romans word by word, phrase by phrase, and paragraph by paragraph. He tries to help readers understand Paul’s letter in its ancient context, reflecting on what its words and phrases may mean for us today. The book can be purchased through the BYU Bookstore.
